TripOut Gay Travel:
St. Petersburg
Gay Friendly Rating:
Tolerant and friendly; but be mindful about PDAs.
Staggering art collections, gleaming architecture, vodka and caviar... Russia's historic gem is a sensory overload.
St. Petersburg Fast Facts:
- Gayborhood The gay clubs may be a hoot for big city boys, but Russians do know how to party! The gay scene is small, and clubs open and close constantly. Ask your innkeeper what's what!
- All American's traveling to Russia must have a visa. Contact the Russian Embassy and proceed from there.
- The best way to see Saint Petersburg is with a private guide. They can get you in front of all lines, are well-versed in history and can give you wonderful insight into the culture. Most charge $100 per day and $10/hour for a driver. Money well spent. Consider our author's guide, Elena, who has given private tours to politicians and royals alike. Email: olga_koshutskaya@inbox.ru

- When dancing till dawn be careful because at night many bridges are raised to let ships through. That means if you need to get over one to get home past 1:30am, you are stuck. Basically, stay near the hotel after 1am.
- If you don't have time for shopping, the museums and palaces have some of the best shopping in town!
- Take the subway just once; the communist knew how to make one fancy subway station. Many are adorned with marble, chandeliers and of course bronze hammer and sickles.
