Santa Fe
Simply put, Santa Fe is one of America’s oldest and most historical cities. Perched on the high desert of Northern New Mexico, it dwells in a region that is physically part of the American landscape but not always strictly of America. Here, the Pueblo, Spanish, and Anglo cultures interweave the old with the new creating rich, often mystifying results. Yes, that moniker, “Land of Enchantment, holds true.
Santa Fe is known as “The City Different,” and it’s certainly a welcoming Mecca to which people from all walks of life gravitate, and find a home. In Santa Fe, a gay-friendly atmosphere abounds; LGBT people and sensibilities are fully integrated into the culture. In fact, Santa Fe has the largest percentage of gay/lesbian couples of any city in the United States, second only to San Francisco. So what makes the “land of enchantment” so magical?
Renowned for the arts, Santa Fe offers an annual film festival, the world class Santa Fe Opera, multiple art festivals, an internationally acclaimed flamenco and tango culture, plus an array of first-class restaurants and galleries. (More on this later, but the food here is amazing.) Mountain vistas abound, and the weather is sunny, (an average of 300 days of sunshine per year) warm, and dry. And then a half-hour’s drive takes you up to the top of the world amongst the shimmering aspens, either skiing or hiking the trails.
A typical night in Santa Fe might consist of a gallery walk down the buzzing (and historic) Canyon Road, ending in a delicious meal at one of Santa Fe’s jaw-droppingly good restaurants and then off to sample the night life… Whether you are into blues or house music, classic Southwestern or an upscale New York vibe, Santa Fe can hook you up.
The city’s unique and inviting atmosphere makes Santa Fe a world-renowned travel destination. And sure, you can call it enchanting…
