Chicago Fast Facts:
- Gayborhood While Boystown on Belmont and Halsted is still Destination No. 1 to get with your kind in Chi-Town, a few of the more house-proud gays are settling farther north in Andersonville.
- Get away from the bustle of Boystown in the friendly "Swedish" village of Andersonville, which is full of gay bars and cute shopping. North Clark Street and West Foster Avenue. http://www.andersonville.org
- Head to Belmont Harbor and walk the lakefront of Lake Michigan for impressive views of the city and the water. Best of all, it's free. Also, check out the "gay beach" at Lakeshore and Hollywood, a sizzling spot for sunbathers during the warmer months.
- Check out Wicker Park & Bucktown. While the enormous Water Tower and deluxe department stores of The Magnificent Mile are all well and good, if you're looking for funkier - and cheaper - shopping, head over to the Wicker Park/Bucktown area for loads of discount stores and boutiques.
- Queer travelers would do themselves a disservice to stick only to Lakeview; there's tons of eyecandy outside the homo ghetto. Take some time to learn the public transit system: The Red Line will take you almost anyplace you'd want to go. Also, a free trolley hits most of the highlights of the downtown "Loop," the area bordered by intersecting train tracks.
The Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau is a member of the IGLTA, the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, which supports and promotes LGBT travel around the world.
