Bata Caves

A 140-foot tall golden statue of the Hindu deity Lord Murugan stands in front of the 272-step walk up to these amazing, cinematic caves. Macaque monkeys leap up and down the staircase snatching any food in sight (including from a small shrine inside the first cave – it’s fun to watch the shine’s caretakers’ futile struggle with the monkeys over food left as offerings), so leave the bananas behind.
