Bangkok
Gay Friendly Rating:
Tolerant and friendly; but be mindful about PDAs.
Ancient temples, ladyboys and pad thai to your heart's desire.
Bangkok Fast Facts:
- Gayborhood Gay nightlife is clustered around Silom Soi 2 and 4, which doubles as Bangkok's financial center during the workday.
- Lesbians, tired of hearing the Lesbian scene is quiet abroad? In Bangkok, Ladies who love ladies who love skin are generally accepted at hetero skin bars where the dancers are often bisexual. Bring your ones!
- Bottle service is very customary in Thailand and it's typical for the oldest member of the group to pick up the tab. So invite along a Daddy and you'll never have to pay.
- It's easy to find tailors who'll knock off your favorite designer fashions for you. It's hard to explain what Gucci Pret-A-Porter looked like circa 2001 in a different language. Before your trip to Thailand, tear out pages with your favorite looks from fashion magazines so you're not stuck pawing through the tailor's stack of British GQ from five years ago.
- Public toilets are squatters, so if you like to sit when you pee, be sure and go before you leave the hotel.
- Shops tend to stay open later and there are some great traveling night markets around town, so feel free to waste the day at museums and monuments and do your shopping after dark.
- This goes without saying, but seeing as how sexual tourism is a major draw to Bangkok, if that's your thing, be sure and use a condom.
