Gay Friendly Rating: Gay Friendly Rating Tolerant and friendly; but be mindful about PDAs.
It's not just for taffy and Miss America anymore. The Vegas of the Jersey Shore is getting downright glam these days.

Atlantic City Fast Facts:

  • Gayborhood Atlantic City's one "gay bar" is pretty small and low-key. You're here for kitschy seaside fun, good food, shopping and slots, after all.
  • Once you're in Atlantic City, driving around is more of a pain than a useful means of transport. Taxis are abundant, and the most a ride anywhere across town will cost you is $11. You can usually always find a cab in a queue outside casinos or at the Convention Center. Jitney mini-buses also run four shuttle routes around the city for $2 a ride, 24 hours daily. And if you need a lift along the Boardwalk, hire a rolling chair (like the gals did on Sex and the City) and get pushed around-in a nice way. An Atlantic City tradition since the 1880's, rides begin at $5.
  • Tourists head to Atlantic City year-round, but of course, the summer is the summer and brings beach-combers galore. Fall is the busiest time for conventioneers or business meetings, and the A-list concerts occur all year long. So anytime is a fine time to visit.
  • If you and your gay spouse are traveling with a wee one, there's lots on offer to keep the kid entertained. There's a Ripley's Believe It Or Not, an IMAX theater, the Atlantic City Aquarium, fishing boats, and scads more. A good place to start investigating kid-friendly activities is at the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Association's website at http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/attractions.asp.
  • The slogan for the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Association these days is Atlantic City: Always Turned On! While you may have to decide for yourself how accurate that is, if you have big general questions about visiting A.C. you should certainly turn to the ACCVA's excellent and info-packed website (http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/). It's a super resource for starting to plan your jaunt to the Jersey Shore.
  • The Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority is a member of the IGLTA, the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, which supports and promotes LGBT travel around the world.
