Georgia's big city is the thriving and thumping gay capital of the South.

Atlanta Fast Facts:

  • Gayborhood Over the last decade, Midtown has become the major gay district of the city with a gay bookstore, several gay bars and clubs, a gay bed & breakfast, multiple gay gyms and plenty of eateries that are all in walking distance.
  • Make an effort to discover the authentic Atlanta neighborhoods. They're so much more fun than the glitzy facade of Buckhead. Go beyond the strip malls and franchised theme restaurants to find great bars and unique clothing boutiques in area's like Little Five Points (very East Village meets Silverlake, but leafier), Midtown and Cabbagetown.
  • If you're looking to check out some local bands or hot indie acts, visit the smaller concert stages, such as The Loft, Variety Playhouse and The Drunken Unicorn Room at MJQ Concourse. Imogen Heap, KT Tunstall and Diplo have all played these lesser-known venues.
  • For a hearthy Southern breakfast or some plain ole' soulfood, make a stop at Mary Mac's Tea Room (224 Ponce De Leon Ave), Silver Grill (900 Monroe Dr) or OK Cafe (1284 W Paces Ferry Rd).
  • Atlanta is not a walking city. Prepare your trip in advance so you can make the best use of your time.
